What style will I learn?
At Bellyup, we teach two different styles of bellydance, traditional/Oriental (what most people think of when they think bellydance) and FCBD®️/Tribal style (a modern form of bellydance where dancers learn a 'vocabulary' of dance combinations using cues to dance together).
In our traditional (Oriental) classes, we teach you the moves through choreography, not just endless drilling. This means that when you go home from your very first beginner class, you will already be able to put together a number of moves!
Likewise, FCBD®️ style will have you dancing combinations from the very first class. We teach using the FCBD®️ format where a leader uses cues and other dancers follow, this makes every performance unique.
***We currently offer classes for experienced dancers only in the FCBD®️ format***

Class times

Traditional/Oriental style
Tuesday Evening
6 - 7pm:
Beginners with Amanda - Seghat Bikrub El Habib
This is a Bellyup favourite, suitable for both beginners and experienced dancers.
Learn an easy choreography that incorporates mainly smooth flowy movements with a few sharper moves thrown in for some fun accents.
This dance introduces troupe formations so you will learn how to dance as part of a larger group.

7 - 8pm:
Continuing with Bec - Jalihah
A former “bonus dance” for the worldwide Shimmy Mob movement, Jalihah was choreographed by our very own Amanda Finn.
This simple choreography has been modified by Mandy to give it that “Bellyup” flair!
A fun, easy to learn dance, suitable all dancers.

FCBD®️ Style (ATS/Tribal):
Wednesday Evening
6:30pm - 8:00pm
Continuing FCBD®️ with Bronwyn
In this 90-minute class, students will learn short dance combinations that can be used to dance together with other students in a supportive environment.
This class teaches the Fat Chance Belly Dance®️ style format and will cover movements from Level 2 and beyond.
Suitable for students with at least one year experience of Level 1.

8:00pm - 8:30pm
FCBD®️ 'Flow' session with Bronwyn
This is a facilitated improvisational dance session where dancers can put into practice the movements and skills they have learned during classes. All dancers are met at their level and nurtured to grow as part of the group.
Minimum of one year experience of FCBD style Level 1 group improvisation classes required.
